Dead Sea Psoriasis Treatment

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

The Dead Sea, both the water itself and the surrounding region, has some unique characteristics that make it a source of seemingly miraculous healing for people with psoriasis.  Folks who were unable to find effective psoriasis treatment anywhere have visited the Dead Sea and, for the first time in their lives, obtained significant relief.

The location of the Dead Sea is unique because it is the lowest place on earth — 1,385 ft (422 meters) below sea level.  For this reason, water flows into the Dead Sea (actually more of a big salt water lake) and then escapes by evaporation.  The water leaves and the salt stays.  Thus water of the Dead Sea is eight times saltier than the ocean.

The Dead Sea’s mineral-saturated water and (according to some) the mud along the shore seem to have a healing / therapeutic effect on psoriasis.  People with psoriasis come from all over the world to heal as much as they can (as long as they can get time off probably).  The secret of this treatment seems to be the minerals that have dissolved in the water.  The water might also acts as an exfoliant, clearing off more dead skin than water would on its own.

The sunlight around the Dead Sea area is also unique: All those extra layers of atmosphere make it the most filtered sunlight in the world.   The sunlight is much less harsh to the point that people don’t have to wear sunblock and it’s possible to sit out in the sun for longer periods of time (hours longer than I would ever dare stay out in the sun here in Arizona).

Lots of people swear by the Dead Sea’s psoriasis-healing effects.  I myself wouldn’t mind a month of sunlight and mineral therapy at the Dead Sea… this would also be an ideal time to release stress (all this strictly for therapeutic purposes of course).

Not surprisingly, people have attempted to package Dead Sea salt, the water’s minerals and even the mud found along the shore and sell it for use at home.  But the overwhelming verdict on these products is that they have little to no real value for treating psoriasis (at least not compared with the real thing).

Video: Curing Psoriasis with Prolonged Dead Sea Therapy and Sunlight

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Here is a five minute video of a man with somewhat severe plaque psoriasis who chronicled his experience over a month’s time of swimming in the dead sea and spending a lot of time in the sun (around 6 hours per day).  So this is a month of dead sea / sunlight psoriasis treatment squashed into 5 minutes.

You’ll notice some drastic changes to his skin, especially about halfway through the month-long treatment period.  What used to be extremely irritated, swollen looking skin fades away and goes back to normal toward the end of the video.   You’ll notice that he gets pretty well tanned as well.

I learned from this video that sunlight isn’t as harsh around the Dead Sea because the elevation there (422 meters  or 1,385 ft below sea level) thus allowing people to sit out in the sun without fear of burning.  They don’t even use much in the way of sunscreen there, apparently — just basic oils.

Much of the lesson to be learned here is the necessity of complete lifestyle change in the battle against psoriasis.  To recover from psoriasis for life, you will most likely have have to change your everyday routine (so you do things differently without thinking about it), including removing anything that is clogging up your liver or your immune system.
