How to Stress Less and Resist Psoriasis More

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Decreasing your stress levels is one of the best ways to battle psoriasis and improve your overall health.

Here are some basic steps you can take to deflate your stress levels as you sit at your work cubicle:

  • Take deliberate, deep, slow breaths of air
  • Drink water
  • Lay off the caffeine
  • Don’t rush your lunch break
  • Escape the air-conditioned confines of your workplace once or twice per day – get some natural oxygen/sunlight.

And finally, practice healthy self-talk.  Tell yourself that you can.  Healthy self-talk can be one of the most powerful factors in your physical and mental health.

Tell yourself: You can, you can, you can.

Like most things, battling psoriasis is a process.  It’s a work in progress.

Keep things in perspective.  You’ve got options.  One thing at a time.  If one thing doesn’t work, you can try something else.  Believe that you can beat psoriasis and you most probably will.

Is it Possible To Beat Psoriasis with My Mind?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Sometimes I wonder if it might be possible to forget that psoriasis is causing my scalp to itch throughout the day.  Would it be possible to become accustomed with any kind of chronic issue such as pain or skin irritation to the point that I don’t notice it anymore?

I suppose if this were possible, then a lot of other medicine would become unnecessary (pain killers for example).

I have found that it is possible to resist itching for a while, but not forever.  Eventually the urge becomes too much, almost like a pain, to the point that I absolutely must scratch my psoriasis infected scalp.  This is why is it vital to find treatments that prevent itching in the first place, so that I won’t have to itch and thus cause continual damage to my skin (a side effect of which is accelerated hair loss).
