How To Prepare Real Christmas Trees

The holiday season is upon us and, for many, that means it’s time to start thinking about decorating the Christmas tree. While artificial trees are certainly more convenient, there’s something special about a real Christmas tree that makes it worth the effort of getting one ready. Preparing a real Christmas tree can be a bit of a challenge, but with a few simple steps, you can have your home looking festive in no time.

To get started, you’ll need to select a tree. Most people prefer fir trees for their fullness and strong branches that can support heavy ornaments. Head to a local Christmas tree farm or lot and pick out a tree you like. Take note of the size and shape so you can plan how much space you’ll need to get it into your house. Once you’ve made your selection, the tree will need to be prepared before it’s ready to be displayed. Here are some tips for preparing a real Christmas tree.

First, make sure to cut off a few inches from the bottom of your tree before bringing it inside. This will help the tree to absorb water and stay fresher longer. Next, place the tree in a large bucket or stand filled with water and let it soak for several hours. If you don’t have a bucket or stand, you can also use a regular vase. Again, make sure the tree is submerged in water to keep it fresh.

Once the tree has had time to absorb water, you’ll need to waterproof it. A wax sealant will do the trick here, and can be found at most hardware stores. Simply apply the sealant to the trunk of the tree. This will help to keep the tree’s needles from drying out and prevent them from falling off prematurely. Make sure to apply the sealant all the way up and down the trunk.

Now, it’s time to bring the tree inside. Place it in your chosen spot in the house and secure it with twine or rope. Be sure to anchor the tree firmly to a wall or other sturdy object to prevent it from tipping over. Now it’s time to start decorating! Start with the lights first, wrapping them around the tree in a zig-zag pattern before adding ornaments and garlands.

When you’re done decorating, you’ll need to make sure your tree stays hydrated. Add water to the tree’s stand daily, and monitor the water level to make sure the tree stays fresh. You should also mist the tree with a spray bottle of water to help prevent needles from drying out.

Preparing a real Christmas tree may take a bit of effort, but the results are well worth it. With these few simple steps, you can have a beautiful and festive tree in your home just in time for the holidays.
